PiStorm

This Week in PiStorm 2021-09-19

Not many photos of development to show you this week. But still some project updates. Here is the latest TWiP!

Development Pressure

Despite communication here in TWiP, on the Facebook group and Discord we still get a lot of questions about when various sub-projects will be completed, including Proto 4, PiStorm32 and the Denise RGB capture board.

Lemaru actually covered this on Discord this week so I’ll quote him here:

What everyone really must remember, is that this is a hobby project, and everyone working on any part of it are doing it for free in their spare time. Everyone has their own day jobs and real world lives that take priority. The more pressure put on people for stuff, often drives them away or makes them lose interest. Its all done for fun, when it’s no longer fun it becomes a chore.

To go further, this isn’t a product that a company makes with promised released dates. Things will be released when they are ready. The last thing we want is designs to be released work-in-progress, lots of people build them only to find they have to be changed. We will have some weeks of very active development and some weeks where it looks like almost nothing is happening (believe me, there is always a lot going on in the background).

Even my time is extremely limited right now for reasons which will become clearer next month.

As frustrating as it might be, we can’t really give dates. We can’t even say whether something will be this year or next year. We ask that you please be patient and we will continue to design and develop some cool stuff for you to play with.

Emu68 Updates

Michal has his motherboard back and since then has not stopped developing. He has been working on a way to get the debugging data out quickly without impacting the timing of everything too much. There is an awesome progress report available on his Patreon page.

PiStorm32 Updates

A few updates for PiStorm32, first of all Claude has successfully made some minor “bodges” to fix some underlying issues with the prototype. Including a darlington pair which was accidentally routed incorrectly.

He has also managed to make an Open Source toolchain build a skeleton firmware and successfully flash it to the board.

The result of the two means he can now PWM control the fan. Videos of this (and it making music) can be found on Discord.
